Canoistul Cătălin Chirilă a urcat pe cea mai înaltă treaptă a podiumului la Campionatele Europene de la Szeged, din Ungaria, după ce a fost de neînvins în proba olimpică de canoe simplu pe 1000 de metri (C1 – 1000 m).
Sportivul legitimat la ClubulSportiv al Armatei Steaua Bucureşti a mai concurat la această ediție a Europenelor în probele de canoe simplu pe 500 m (C1 - 500 m), unde s-a clasat pe locul 4 și la canoe simplu pe 5000 m (C1 – 5000 m) unde a încheia pe locul 6.
La Szeged, Cătălin Chirilă și-a trecut în palmares cel de-al doilea titlu european, după cel cucerit în 2022, la CE de la Munchen (Germania).
Stelistul, care în această vară va concura la Jocurile Olimpice Paris 2024, are 5 medalii la Campionatele Europene:
2 AUR – Szeged 2024 & Munchen 2022 (C1 – 1000 m);
1 ARGINT – Cracovia 2023 (C1 – 500 m) - Campionatele Europene s-au desfășurat în cadul Jocurilor Europene Kracovia Malopolska 2023

Cătălin Chirilă, European Canoe Champion
Canoeist Cătălin Chirilă stood on the highest step of the podium at the European Championships in Szeged, Hungary, after being unbeatable in the Olympic event of the single canoe 1000 meters (C1 – 1000 m). The athlete, affiliated with the Sports Club of the Army - Steaua Bucharest, also competed in this edition of the European Championships in the single canoe 500 meters (C1 - 500 m) event, where he finished 4th, and in the single canoe 5000 meters (C1 – 5000 m) event, where he finished 6th.
In Szeged, Cătălin Chirilă added his second European title to his record, after winning the first one in 2022 at the European Championships in Munich, Germany. The Steaua Bucharest athlete, who will compete this summer at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, has 5 medals at the European Championships:
• 2 GOLD – Szeged 2024 & Munich 2022 (C1 – 1000 m);
• 1 SILVER – Krakow 2023 (C1 – 500 m) - The European Championships were held within the framework of the European Games Krakow Malopolska 2023
• 2 BRONZE – Munich 2022 (C1 – 500 m) & Poznan 2021 (C2 – 1000 m)
