Mișcarea Olimpică din România a aniversat azi, 27 martie 2024, 110 ani de la înființarea Comitetului Olimpic și Sportiv Român, iar cu această ocazie, Viorica Viscopoleanu, campioană olimpică la săritura în lungime, și Dan Grecu, medaliat olimpic la inele și fost antrenor al lotului masculin de gimnastică, au primit Colanul de Aur, cea mai înaltă distincție conferită de Comitetul Olimpic și Sportiv Român.

Evenimentul, care s-a desfășurat în Muzeul Sportului din Casa Olimpică, a fost onorat de campioni olimpici, membri ai Adunării Generale COSR și personalități ale vieții olimpice.

În cei 110 ani de existență, Mișcarea Olimpică din România a fost constanta care a generat performanță în sportul românesc, consolidându-și rolul de a promova principiile fundamentale ale Olimpismului la nivel național. Valorile cultivate de Mișcarea Olimpică – Excelență, Prietenie, Respect - nu sunt doar deziderate teoretice. Unul dintre scopurile fundamentale ale COSR este tocmai reconstruirea societății contemporane. Onoarea, demnitatea sportivilor, spiritul de echipă și fair-play-ul, de care dau dovadă în competiții, fac din ei veritabile modele pentru societate. Sportivii români au câștigat 309 medalii olimpice: 90 de aur, 97 de argint și 122 de bronz.

Președintele Comitetului Olimpic și Sportiv Român Mihai Covaliu a deschis evenimentul marcând contribuția fiecărui sportiv și oficial care au contribuit la succesul olimpic.

” Noi, cei care azi conducem Mișcarea Olimpică, ne-am asumat misiunea de a consolida această poziție a organizației în societate și suntem atenți la tot ceea ce îi face pe oameni să se simtă valorizați. Puterea noastră stă în bucuria sportivilor și e alimentată de pasiunea celor care mențin aprinsă flacăra performanței. Măsurăm respectul pentru trecut prin ceea ce oferim juniorilor și tinerilor care reprezintă Team Romania în competițiile olimpice.

Prezenţa în faţa domniilor voastre îmi oferă prilejul de a-mi exprima respectul, consideraţia şi recunoştinţa faţă de această organizație şi oamenii săi, sportivi, campioni, medaliați, antrenori, oficiali, din toate generaţiile. Din 1914 și până astăzi. Și eu sunt unul dintre cei care am cunoscut succesul olimpic ca sportiv, campion, antrenor și oficial. Vă spun cu mâna pe inimă că nimic nu se compară cu sentimentul apartenenței la Familia Olimpică. O familie în care succesul este rodul educației, tradiției și respectului reciproc.

Poziția Comitetului Olimpic și Sportiv Român în Mișcarea Olimpică Internațională este unanim recunoscută și apreciată și este meritul tuturor celor care au făcut și fac parte din această organizație. Care și-au dedicat viața unui ideal. Ne mândrim cu cele 309 medalii olimpice dar în spatele lor sunt milioane de inimi care au vibrat cu emoție și pasiune la fiecare victorie. Olimpicii români au îmbogățit patrimoniul sportului mondial și au creat identitate națională pentru țara noastră. Acum, viitorul Mișcării Olimpice Naționale depinde de acțiunile fiecăruia dintre noi. Avem această datorie de a genera încredere și de a-i ajuta pe sportivii tineri să reușească să-și împlinească visurile. Să fim realiști, să ne estimăm corect valoarea și potențialul în contextul mondial. Doar așa vom avea continuitate în performanță.

Închei cu gândul că peste 121 de zile, la Paris, locul unde acum 100 de ani a fost câștigată prima medalie olimpică a României, încep Jocurile Olimpice. Le doresc succes tuturor celor care vor concura pentru Team Romania la competiția din Franța. Flacăra pasiunii este puterea noastră, din toată inima pentru Team Romania!” a declarat Mihai Covaliu.

Elisabeta Lipă, președintele Agenției Naționale pentru Sport, participantă la 6 ediții de Jocuri și câștigătoare a 8 medalii, dintre care 5 de aur, a evocat succesul prin aparteneța la lumea olimpică și moștenirea spiritului de învingător:

” Sunt recunoscătoare celor care ne-au lasat moștenire acest spirit si care ne-au inspirat să credem. Imi exprim respectul pentru toți cei care au pus mândria, spiritul de învingători mai presus de orice și au trasformat Mișcarea Olimpică din România într-o forță. Sportivi, antrenori, oficiali și suporteri. 110 ani de Miscare Olimpică însemană tradiție, însemană onoare și identitate națională. Cred cu tărie, ca olimpicii din sport pot inspira românii să lupte și să creadă în visul lor. Nu există nu se poate atunci când pasiunea și inima sunt puse la bătaie, când faci ce trebuie nu se poate să nu progresezi.

Lansez un mesaj către generațiile care vin, urmați-vă visul dar invățați de la noi că nu există cale ușoară spre succes. Sacrificiul însă merită trăit, vă spune un om care a fost la 6 ediții de JO si a câștigat 8 medalii, care a fost declarat cea mai bună canotoare al secolului XX. Fără sport, fără pasiune, fără muncă, fără spiritul olimpic azi nu aș fi fost Elisabeta Lipă!”.

Cele mai emoționante momente au fost cele în care COSR a conferit cea mai înaltă distincție, Colanul de Aur, Vioricăi Viscopoleanu și lui Dan Grecu.

Mihai Covaliu alături de secretarul general COSR, George Boroi și președinta FR Atletism, Anișoara Cușmir-Stanciu i-au asezat colanul la gât atletei campioană olimpică la săritura în lungime, la Mexico City 1968. Viorica Viscopoleanu a câștigat aurul olimpic stabilind atunci, dintr-o singură încercare, un nou record mondial și olimpic (6,82 m). Ea a participat la trei ediții de Jocuri Olimpice: Tokyo 1964, Mexico City 1968, Munchen 1972, este campioană europeană la săritura în lungime în 1970 și are în palmares 5 medalii: 1 aur, 1 argint și 3 medalii de bronz la CE sală.

”Sunt profund emoționată și vă mulțumesc pentru acest premiu. Vreau să le urez succes celor care la vară la Paris vor concura pentru România, să lase emoțiile la poarta stadionului sau la ușa sălii. O victorie olimpică este unică și merită să lupți cu toată ființa pentru ea!” a declarat Viorica Viscopoleanu în aplauzele asistenței.

Printre cei care au aplaudat-o în picioare s-au numărat membri ai familiei și elevele sale Monica Iagăr și Mirela Belu, precum și alte medaliatele olimpice din atletism, Constantina Diță, Vali Ionescu.

Președintele COSR, Mihai Covaliu, alături de Elisabeta Lipă și Marius Urzică i-au pus la gât Colanu de Aur lui Dan Grecu. Primul campion mondial din gimnastica românească, medaliat olimpic cu bronz la inele la Montreal 1976 și antrenorul de vocație care a condus echipa masculină de gimnastică pe toate podiumurile lumii a primit cu ochii în lacrimi decorația.

” Gimnastica a fost viața mea, am trăit ca sportiv pentru a câștiga și ca antrenor pentru a crea echipe. Le sunt recunoscător celor care mi-au fost alături în carieră, familiei si sportivilor pentru că au înțeles că munca bate talentul. Pentru mine, care am fost la 9 ediții de Jocuri Olimpice ca sportiv, antrenor și arbitru, pot spune că momentul acesta a adus o emoție enormă pentru că este un premiu oferit de Familia Olimpică pe care am respectat-o prin performanțe! Mulțumesc!” a mulțumit celor prezenți Dan Grecu.

Dan Grecu a participat la 3 ediții de Jocuri Olimpice: Munchen 1972, Montreal 1976, Moscova 1980. A câștigat bronzul la inele la JO Montreal 1976, este primul campion mondial din istoria gimnasticii românești ( Varna 1974) și primul gimnast român medaliat la europene (Berna 1975). Are în palmares 3 medalii: 1 aur – 1 argint – 1 bronz la mondiale și 2 medalii europene: 1 aur și 1 argint. Echipa României coordonată de antrenorul Dan Grecu a câștigat bronz olimpic în 2004, bronz mondial în 1995 și aur european 2002 și 2004.

Alături de Dan Grecu au fost azi soția sa, Elena Grecu și patru dintre cei mai mari gimnaști ai României: Marius Urzică, Marian Drăgulescu, Ioan Suciu si Răzvan Șelariu, antrenorul Stefan Gal, Maria Fumea din partea Federaței Române de Gimnastică, precum și fostul președinte al FRG, Adrian Stoica și Mircea Apolzan, fost secretar general al FRG, oameni care i-au fost aproape în carieră lui Dan Grecu.

În cadrul evenimentului Institutul Național de Cercetare - Dezvoltare în Informatică a lansat NFT-ul ”COSR 110”, o extindere a proiectului pe care COSR îl dezvoltă cu ICI.

Viorica Viscopoleanu and Dan Grecu received the Golden Chain of COSR at the 110th anniversary celebration of Olympism in Romania

The Olympic Movement in Romania was celebrated on March 27th, 2024, 110 years since the establishment of the Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee, and on this occasion, Viorica Viscopoleanu, Olympic champion in long jump, and Dan Grecu, Olympic medalist in rings and former coach of the men's gymnastics team, received the Golden Chain, the highest distinction awarded by the Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee.

The event, held at the Sports Museum in the Olympic House, was honored by Olympic champions, members of the COSR General Assembly, and personalities from the Olympic world.

In its 110 years of existence, the Olympic Movement in Romania has been the constant that has generated excellence in Romanian sports, consolidating its role in promoting the fundamental principles of Olympism at the national level. The values ​​cultivated by the Olympic Movement - Excellence, Friendship, Respect - are not just theoretical aspirations. One of the fundamental goals of COSR is precisely the rebuilding of contemporary society. The honor, dignity of athletes, teamwork, and fair play they demonstrate in competitions make them true role models for society. Romanian athletes have won 309 Olympic medals: 90 gold, 97 silver, and 122 bronze.

Mihai Covaliu, President of the Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee, opened the event, highlighting the contribution of each athlete and official who contributed to the Olympic success.

"We, those who lead the Olympic Movement today, have taken on the mission of strengthening the organization's position in society and are attentive to everything that makes people feel valued. Our strength lies in the joy of the athletes and is fueled by the passion of those who keep the flame of performance alive. We measure the respect for the past by what we offer to the juniors and young people representing Team Romania in Olympic competitions.

Being in front of you gives me the opportunity to express my respect, consideration, and gratitude to this organization and its people, athletes, champions, medalists, coaches, officials, from all generations. From 1914 until today. I am one of those who have experienced Olympic success as an athlete, champion, coach, and official. I can tell you with my hand on my heart that nothing compares to the feeling of belonging to the Olympic Family. A family in which success is the result of education, tradition, and mutual respect.

The position of the Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee in the International Olympic Movement is universally recognized and appreciated and is the merit of all those who have been and are part of this organization. Who have dedicated their lives to an ideal. We are proud of the 309 Olympic medals, but behind them are millions of hearts that have vibrated with emotion and passion at every victory. Romanian Olympians have enriched the heritage of world sports and have created a national identity for our country. Now, the future of the National Olympic Movement depends on the actions of each of us. We have this duty to generate trust and help young athletes succeed in fulfilling their dreams. Let's be realistic, let's assess our value and potential correctly in the global context. Only then will we have continuity in performance.

I conclude with the thought that in over 121 days, in Paris, where 100 years ago the first Olympic medal for Romania was won, the Olympic Games will begin. I wish success to all those who will compete for Team Romania in the competition in France. The flame of passion is our strength, wholeheartedly for Team Romania!" declared Mihai Covaliu.

Elisabeta Lipă, President of the National Sports Agency, participant in 6 editions of the Games and winner of 8 medals, including 5 gold, evoked success through belonging to the Olympic world and the legacy of the spirit of a winner:

"I am grateful to those who have left us this legacy and who have inspired us to believe. I express my respect for all those who have put pride, the spirit of winners above all else and have turned the Olympic Movement in Romania into a force. Athletes, coaches, officials, and supporters. 110 years of the Olympic Movement mean tradition, honor, and national identity. I strongly believe that athletes in sports can inspire Romanians to fight and believe in their dreams. There is no I can’t when passion and heart are at stake, when you do what you must, you cannot fail to progress. I send a message to the generations to come, follow your dream but learn from us that there is no easy path to success. The sacrifice is worth living, tells you a person who has been at 6 editions of the Games and has won 8 medals, who was declared the best rower of the 20th century. Without sport, without passion, without work, without the Olympic spirit, today I would not have been Elisabeta Lipă!"

The most emotional moments were those in which COSR conferred the highest distinction, the Golden Chain, to Viorica Viscopoleanu and Dan Grecu.

Mihai Covaliu, alongside COSR Secretary-General George Boroi and the president of the Romanian Athletics Federation, Anișoara Cușmir-Stanciu, placed the chain around the neck of Olympic champion long jumper Viorica Viscopoleanu at Mexico City 1968.

Viorica Viscopoleanu won the Olympic gold, setting a new world and Olympic record (6.82 m) in a single attempt. She participated in three editions of the Olympic Games: Tokyo 1964, Mexico City 1968, Munich 1972. She is the European champion in long jump in 1970 and has a record of 5 medals: 1 gold, 1 silver, and 3 bronze medals at the European Indoor Championships.

"I am deeply touched and I thank you for this award. I want to wish success to those who will compete for Romania this summer in Paris, to leave their emotions at the stadium gate or at the entrance of the arena. An Olympic victory is unique and worth fighting for with all your being!" declared Viorica Viscopoleanu amidst applause from the audience.

Among those who gave her a standing ovation were members of her family and her students Monica Iagăr and Mirela Belu, as well as other Olympic medalists in athletics, Constantina Diță, and Vali Ionescu.

COSR President Mihai Covaliu, alongside Elisabeta Lipă and Marius Urzică, also awarded Dan Grecu the Golden Chain. The first world champion in Romanian gymnastics, Olympic bronze medalist in rings at Montreal 1976, and the coach who led the men's gymnastics team to all the podiums in the world, received the decoration with tears in his eyes.

"Gymnastics has been my life; I lived as an athlete to win and as a coach to create teams. I am grateful to those who have been with me in my career, my family, and the athletes because they understood that hard work beats talent. For me, who have been at 9 editions of the Olympic Games as an athlete, coach, and referee, I can say that this moment brought immense emotion because it is an award given by the Olympic Family that I have respected through performances! Thank you!" expressed Dan Grecu to those present.

Dan Grecu participated in 3 editions of the Olympic Games: Munich 1972, Montreal 1976, Moscow 1980. He won the bronze in rings at the Montreal 1976 Olympics, is the first world champion in the history of Romanian gymnastics (Varna 1974), and the first Romanian gymnast to win a medal at the European Championships (Bern 1975). He has a record of 3 medals: 1 gold, 1 silver, 1 bronze at the world championships and 2 European medals: 1 gold and 1 silver. The Romanian team under the guidance of coach Dan Grecu won Olympic bronze in 2004, world bronze in 1995, and European gold in 2002 and 2004.

Beside Dan Grecu were his wife, Elena Grecu, and four of Romania's greatest gymnasts: Marius Urzică, Marian Drăgulescu, Ioan Suciu, and Răzvan Șelariu, coach Stefan Gal, Maria Fumea from the Romanian Gymnastics Federation, as well as former FRG President Adrian Stoica and Mircea Apolzan, former FRG general secretary, people who were close to Dan Grecu in his career.

During the event, the National Institute for Research and Development in Informatics launched the NFT "COSR 110", an extension of the project developed by COSR with ICI.
